Shadows

I saw you again yesterday…

A woman lost in the shallows of her own shadow, estranged from all reality of Love, floundering in frustration, desperately protecting a shaky self, created in the mists of long ago.

A weakly washing tide of other people’s ideas and opinions,
Partially understood concepts, borrowed or stolen, anything of seeming importance, protected like the gospel itself.

A woman lost in the shallows of her own shadow.

Half-baked and hardly understood thoughts, encased in barbed wire theory, protecting an idea, a wisp, a wraith of archaic importance hiding rotting bones of shame buried beneath tombs of lonely laughter.

Corroded weapons of war in strange shapes and forms collected over lifetimes and hung onto, in the formless fear that the tide of Love may get too high and sweep you into forever.

Dear One, I have heard you thrashing and cursing in the shallows; I have seen you hurling poison-tipped pebbles at the laughing waves of Life.

I know how your rantings have kept you trapped in the rock pools of a life half-lived, like a beached whale suffocating within the weight of itself.

Rusty chains rattling terror – that keep you from swimming into the sea of surrender.

Who are you, shadowy woman?
What moves your soul?
Do you even remember?

What cruelty drove you to a life lived in shifting sands and borrowed dreams?

And all the while the Deep calls, Love boundless invites you: Let go!
Let go and trust Life’s currents that long to run fingers through your heart and rock you in endless stillness.

Shadow woman, will you release your grip on the jagged rocks that cut and bruise?
Will you drop those rattling chains of illusion and the rusted weapons with which you so fiercely fight off Life?

Will you sink with me into the Light that burns through all shadows – the breathless icy waters of truth that dissolve illusion, cleansing, healing, and at last … at last leave one swimming in naked freedom and dancing glory through waves of joy?

Will you drop your futile weapons and swim with me into the Deep?
